El Consejo Mundial por la Paz, el Movimiento Cubano por la Paz y la Soberanía de los Pueblos (MOVPAZ) y el Instituto Cubano de Amistad con los Pueblos (ICAP), con el coauspicio de la Organización de Solidaridad con los Pueblos de África, Asia y América Latina (OSPAAAL), del Centro Martin Luther King Jr. (CMLK) y del Grupo de Reflexión Oscar Arnulfo Romero, convocan al VI Seminario Internacional de Paz y por la Abolición de las Bases Militares Extranjeras que tendrá lugar en Guantánamo, Cuba, del 4 al 6 de mayo del 2019.
Nuevamente esta VI edición del Seminario tendrá como sede a la ciudad de Guantánamo, capital de la provincia homónima, donde existe la más antigua base militar de los Estados Unidos en el mundo, y que hoy también es centro internacional de torturas y violaciones de derechos humanos que concita el repudio de las personas amantes de la paz en todo el planeta.
Este seminario congregará una vez más a luchadores por la paz, antibelicistas y amigos solidarios de Cuba y de las más justas causas de los pueblos, para exigir la eliminación de las bases e instalaciones extranjeras de los países de nuestra región y de todo el mundo, y el cese de la carrera militarista y armamentista que desarrolla el imperialismo estadounidense junto a sus aliados de la OTAN e Israel y que colocan al mundo en la antesala de una nueva conflagración mundial.
Asimismo, se realizará en momentos en que se expande una gran ofensiva del imperialismo y las oligarquías latinoamericanas contra los procesos democráticos y progresistas del continente, que empleando argucias e infamias políticas y mediáticas, así como la implementación de mecanismos de extorsión económica y mediante la judicialización de la política buscan a toda costa revertir los logros alcanzados por los gobiernos progresistas en defensa de sus pueblos y de su genuina independencia y soberanía.
Este Seminario Internacional se llevará a efecto, además, en el contexto del recrudecimiento de las políticas hostiles y agresivas de la nueva Administración estadounidense contra Cuba, que ha impuesto de manera unilateral un retroceso al proceso de normalización de las relaciones entre los dos países iniciado en diciembre del 2014 y que se empeña en fortalecer el criminal bloqueo económico, comercial y financiero contra la mayor de las Antillas.
Será un espacio para fortalecer la Coalición Global en contra de las Bases Militares de Estados Unidos y de la OTAN aprobada en Dublín, Irlanda y en el marco de este VI Seminario quedará oficialmente constituido el 23 de febrero como el “Día Mundial por la Paz y contra las Bases Militares Extranjeras”.
Una vez más, se reiterará la importancia y la total vigencia de la Proclama de América Latina y El Caribe como Zona de Paz, aprobada por todos los Jefes de Estado y de Gobierno de la Región reunidos en La Habana en enero del 2014, durante la II Cumbre de la CELAC.

VI SEMINAR FOR PEACE AND FOR THE ABOLITON OF FOREIGN MILITARY BASES.
The World Council for Peace, the Cuban Movement for Peace and the Sovereignty of Peoples (MOVPAZ) and the Cuban Institute of Friendship with Peoples (ICAP), with the co-sponsorship of the Organization of Solidarity with the Peoples of Africa, Asia and Latin America (OSPAAAL), the Martin Luther King Jr. Center (CMLK) and the Oscar Arnulfo Romero Reflection Group, call for the VI International Seminar on Peace and the Abolition of the Foreign Military Bases to be held in Guantánamo, Cuba, from May 4 to 6, 2019.
Once again, the importance and full validity of the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace approved by all the Heads of State and Government of the Region meeting in Havana in January 2014, during the II Summit of CELAC will be reiterated.
Once more, this 6th edition of the Seminar will be held in the city of Guantánamo, capital of the homonymous province, where exists the oldest US military base in in the world, which also functions today as an international center of torture and human rights violations (Guantánamo Bay Detention Camp) that arouses the repudiation of people who love peace all over the planet. .
This seminar will once again bring together fighters for peace and against-war solidarity friends of Cuba and friends of the most just causes of the peoples, in order to demand the elimination of foreign bases and facilities from the countries of our region and from the whole world, as well as the cessation of the militaristic and arms race that US imperialism develops along with its NATO and Israel allies and that sets the world in the forefront of a new world conflagration.
Likewise, it will be held at a time when a great offensive of imperialism and the Latin American oligarchies are going against the democratic and progressive processes of the continent. This imperialistic offensive attempts to reverse by all means, the achievements of progressive governments in defense of their peoples and their genuine independence and sovereignty through political and media tricks and infamies, as well as through the implementation of mechanisms of economic extortion and through the tendency to deal with political issues through the courts
This International Seminar will also take place in the context of the intensification of hostile and aggressive policies of the new US Administration against Cuba, which has unilaterally imposed a setback to the process of normalization of relations between the two countries initiated in December 2014 and that is committed to strengthen the criminal economic, commercial and financial blockade against the largest of the Antilles.
It will be a space to strengthen the Global Coalition against the Military Bases of the United States and NATO approved in Dublin, Ireland; and within the framework of this VI Seminar the “World Day for Peace and against Foreign Military Bases” will be officially constituted on February 23.
